About Dr. Karen Stevenson

Dr. Stevenson practiced Adult, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry for twenty years prior to attending seminary. Her ministry focus has primarily centered around the emotional and spiritual care of women. She has written and spoken extensively about the interface between Spirituality and Medicine, especially as it concerns women. Her medical practice and ministry have focused primarily on the impact of various traumas on women, especially the mental health and societal consequences of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, as well as abortion.

Dr. Stevenson’s calling in ministry includes partnering with pastors, congregations, and community organizations to bring about healing for those who have been emotionally and spiritually wounded. Her ministry includes teaching and preaching in churches about the “hard issues” that people face in their families, communities, and in society as a whole. She believes that having these “Courageous Conversations” about issues such as physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, addictions, sexuality, and the harboring of family secrets, is the first step in ushering in the healing process.

Dr. Stevenson and her team also conduct healing workshops, seminars, and retreats for those who are dealing with life stress, going through major life transitions, and grieving pregnancy loss, abortion or other life traumas. She has a passion for ministering to the wounded body, soul, and spirit. The scriptural text that inspires her ministry is Isaiah 61:1-3a.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners… To comfort all who mourn and to provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

Dr. Stevenson is a Spirit-filled Christian who loves the Lord Jesus Christ. She has been called to inspire, exhort, and empower God’s people to walk in deep fellowship with the Lord and to live an abundant life in Him. She and her husband, Dr. Rodrick Stevenson, have been married for thirty-three years and they are the blessed parents of four children and five grandchildren.
